From 2017 to 2023, our topics revolved around the Microsoft HoloLens©. The students designed
and developed applications for geospatial real world tasks that incorporate
Gamification elements. The goal was to transform physical, geographical items into
three-dimensional, interactive, and holographic objects.
The outcome of these projects
can be experienced as immersive applications. To tackle the problems, users need their gestures and
voices to place, move, create and delete virtual geographical features on and around real
world objects.
In 2015 and 2016, Open Data was at the center of our efforts. As more and more public agencies
and private companies start to make data extracts available for use in research and industry,
a wealth of interesting new concepts and applications start to appear.
Developing geogames, informative applications and fitness and health apps, the students of the
GIS lab became acquainted with searching and processing Open Data in various formats, and
transforming it into useful applications and products.
